The International Survival Federation (FISSS) with its precursor Consociate, the FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA SURVIVAL SPORTIVO E SPERIMENTALE (F.I.S.S.S.), is an Associative Hub born to set rules, train and provide verification in the related field (i.e., to establish the survival competence, both theoretical and practical/experimental). It is composed by the legal representatives of all professional-amateur bodies and by the affiliate operative Instructors (F.I.S.S.S. counts more than 30 Consociates and 250 Operators and Instructors, active during 2017 in Italy and abroad).

Pioneering in the field since 1986, F.I.S.S.S. has been holding specialised courses and games with a civil and secular format, leaving aside military and scouting logics. It is continuously open to innovation and research, managing Contests (field tests about attitudes and technical knowledge), and Testages (meetings for evaluation and upgrading of Instructors).

The Federation keeps a disciplinary identity without locking in excessively limiting specialisations, following the new professional and techno-formative implementations that Survival is utilising to infiltrate different fields (Human Ecology, Anthropology, Motor Sciences, Neurosciences and others).
The phylum FISSS belongs to is sports: surviving by sports means living with passion. Synthetically, sports are a “culture and science of physical action” – free or disciplined – by vocation, leisure or profession. Therefore the Federation promotes Combined Commitment Sports, activities that revive abilities and attitudes of our origins, enhance the pleasure of enacting the most useful and vital techniques in every environmental context and, above all, look for the adventure of knowledge and challenge in real or simulated emergencies. This is Permanent Formation.

Survival as an Art is partial, not martial. Besides the knowledge, ability and competence required from the practitioner, one has to consider its imponderable components (Chance & Luck), plus the imperative necessity to reduce the redundant number of theoretically useful competences. A normative specialization would obviously be impossible – and not advisable, because it is understood that specialization may cause extinction – even if limited to the 20 discipline of FISSS regulations. The survivalist is therefore trained to reinterpret all his/her learnt knowledge with a Creative & Recreational Logic, i.e. divergent and functional to one categorical imperative only: Survive to Live.

FISSS is not the only one in this field any more, and the Federation is proud to be imitated too; therefore we misquote for our aficionados a motto of Special Forces Operators:
”Live with the rest, but survive with the best”.To the Federation may adhere profit and non-profit bodies, plus individual professional Instructors
